Are you the only gay (girl) in the village?
Thank you! We’ve SOLD OUT. Follow the event on Twitter @shespeaksnorth with #shespeaksnorthside
Join us for our launch event. Celebrate with a drink, a panel discussion and networking on Thursday 4 September at 6.30pm at Francesca’s Bar, 222 High Street Northcote.
We’ll be talking about:
- Bringing your whole self to work in a workplace that isn’t a corporate, doesn’t have a diversity program or doesn’t know what LGBTI stands for
- Being LGBTI when you’re marketing yourself into a new role; to a recruiter and to a company
- “Outing yourself” to your clients, what’s your experience?
To keep your ‘Gay in the village’ evening relaxed, we’ve limited the number of tickets – and they’re already selling fast.
Your $20 ticket includes nibblies, choice of a welcome drink and event.
If you’re a Globe Melbourne member, please email us and show your membership ID to our event team at the door on the night to receive your $15 ticket. (Cash sales only)

6.30 Event start
6.50 – 7.40pm Jo Thomas, panel Chair opens the evening
7.40 – 8pm Question time
Panel Chair: Jo Thomas
Jo chairs our SheSpeaks panels, asking the questions you wish you’d thought of and several you wish she hadn’t. Despite a shocking timekeeping capability, Jo keeps our panel (almost) on track and makes sure you get the most from our carefully selected and insightful panelists.
Anna Brown, Co-Convenor of the Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby and Director of Advocacy and Strategic Litigation, Human Rights Law Centre. Anna will give us some insights into current anti-discrimination protections and gaps for employees. Get your curly questions ready.
Sam D’Rosario, Marketing executive from Chorus executive recruitment. Sam will discuss selling your (LGBTI) self when looking for a new role. Do you include any volunteer work that you’ve done for LGBTI organisations on your CV? What about asking if the company has a diversity policy or if it’s LGBTI-friendly at an interview?
Michelle Redfern. As Head of NAB’s ATM’s & Self Service Channel, Michelle is responsible for developing and delivering the ATM & Self-service channel. In her previous role at Serco, she was a 2012 global award winner for inspirational leadership having led a significant transition and transformation program. Michelle will share her insights on working at NAB where bringing your whole LGBTI self to work is the norm, not the exception.
Gemma Trivisonno, Senior Brand Manager, Mondelez International, has over 20 years’ brand management experience working for some of Australia’s leading FMCG food companies. (Kraft Foods, Simplot and General Mills). Spanning the past three decades, Gemma will speak on her own personal experience from actually being the “only gay in the village” to today being one of many and how changes in our society have impacted on her career.
