About She Speaks’

She Speaks Northside is a Melbourne event series created for LGBTI women and their friends by northside locals Stephanie Mayne and Shea Heard.

“We couldn’t find an event that mixed drinks at the local bar with inspirational women sharing their expertise.  We wanted to bring the best speakers on a range of topics to a relaxed venue – so we created She Speaks Northside.”

Five times a year She Speaks’ gathers a panel of speakers together in a northside venue.  The event shares compelling topics that speak to what Melbourne LGBTI women want.

Season One generated discussions on:

  • The financial agreements that bind our relationships
  • Why ‘Lesbian Bed Death’ isn’t a thing
  • Bringing your whole self to work
  • The changing portrayal of LGBTI women in the media

We heard from a range of speakers, including;

Anna Brown, Co-Convenor of the Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby and Director of Advocacy and Strategic Litigation, Human Rights Law Centre

Georgie Harman, CEO beyondblue

Jacqui Tomlins, writer and researcher, OUTspoken Families

Jodylee Bartal, Senior Associate, Lander & Rogers Lawyers, Family & Relationship Law

Lisa Daniel, Director, Melbourne Queer Film Festival

Megan Luscombe, Relationship and Wellness Coach

Michelle Redfern,Head of ATM’s & Self Service Channel, NAB

Founding contributors

We’re thankful for our team of contributors who donate their time to make She Speaks’ events run smoothly. We also wish to thank the City of Darebin – Series One was funded by a community grant awarded from the council for 2014/15.  Additionally, none of our expert speakers are paid to share their expertise.
